John Johnson, President

6 years personal and small group training experience Philosophy: Good health provides the foundation for a long and prosperous life.

In 2008, John Johnson and Bev Goldblatt opened the Synergy Health and Fitness Center to provide the Arlington community with a fresh, unintimidating environment for clients seeking a more personalized fitness experience. Based on their belief that fitness is one part of a larger, life story, the husband-and-wife team strives to meet clients where they are and help them build a lifetime commitment to health and well-being.

John is an American Council on Exercise (ACE) certified personal trainer and holds a B.S. degree in health and fitness promotion. In 2005, he launched Synergy Health and Fitness to integrate his personal and professional enthusiasm for fitness with his desire to help others build a lifetime commitment to health and well-being. He has worked with clients in their homes, and at various fitness centers and outdoor venues.

His fitness-related interests include weight training, running, skiing, biking, and working with youth on athletic conditioning. Prior to starting Synergy, John owned and operated two successful Fastsigns franchises in Northern Virginia. In 2004, he sold these businesses to pursue a full-time career in the fitness industry.

Beverly Goldblatt, Vice President for Business and Communications

Philosophy: Life is about relationships with family, friends, and community. It’s important to nurture these relationships both at home and in our business lives.

Beverly has been with Synergy since its inception in 2005, establishing the company’s infrastructure and creating its initial marketing and communications campaigns. She was instrumental in the planning and design of Synergy’s Arlington fitness center.

She currently serves as Synergy’s business and communications manager where she develops copy for the company’s marketing campaigns—Web site, brochures, informational fliers, newsletters—and manages its client communications and social marketing efforts—Constant Contact, WordPress, Facebook, Twitter. She also manages the company’s business affairs and financials.

Beverly is also a freelance writer and communications professional for a local consulting firm. She is an active member of her community where she has held numerous volunteer positions at her church, children’s schools, recreation association, and local non-profit organizations.

Wayne Williamson, Manager

17 years personal training experience Philosophy: A good trainer should not only assist you in achieving your fitness goals, but teach you how to improve your life.

Wayne is a National Sports and Conditioning Association (NSCA) certified personal trainer with extensive experience in the fitness field. His training style is defined as “instinctive,” as he is able to adapt to the needs of a wide range of personalities and training styles. He enjoys working with clients who are motivated and ready to commit to changing their lifestyles.

Wayne’s fitness career began in 1991 at the University of Miami’s rehabilitation facility where he worked with patients ranging from student athletes to sports superstars. In 1996, he moved to the DC area to work the Diabetes Association’s lecture circuit. Here, he launched his career as a personal trainer after discovering a void in competent, creative trainers in the area.

Emily K George, Human Resources Manager

4 years personal and small group training experience Philosophy: It is crucial we make time in our busy lives to take care of our bodies. Regular exercise gives us the added energy we need to make it through the work week and life's daily challenges.

Emily is a National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) certified personal trainer and a Subject Matter Expert for the NASM Exam Board. Emily grew up with a passion for fitness, spending 12 years of her life as a competitive gymnast. She has taken the discipline and dedication derived from the sport and transferred it to her health and fitness career.

Before becoming a trainer, Emily spent 10 years managing human resources for small- to mid-size aerospace and defense companies. This corporate experience allows her to effectively relate to her busy clients as she understands the role exercise and physical fitness play in balancing corporate demands with personal lifestyles.

Brad Mountain, Director of Membership and Marketing

6 years sales and marketing experience Philosophy: Providing first class customer service to each and every client and building sustainable relationships within the local community are priority.

Brad brings extensive sports marketing and fitness knowledge to Synergy and holds a B.B.A. in Business Management from Radford University. Prior to joining Synergy, he served as the Community Relations Manager for Velocity Sports Performance where he worked with individuals, schools, and businesses to design sports performance training programs tailored toward each of their needs.

As a Northern Virginia native, Brad understands the pressures associated with living in the region and the importance fitness and healthy living play in creating balanced lives. He knows each client has distinct priorities, and works one-on-one with each individual to identify a program that fits their lifestyle.
